Company Origins
In 1940, John P.K. Fontaine founded the original company in Birmingham, Alabama producing trailers for the federal government. To relieve a widespread and critical shortage of cast fifth wheels during World War II, he invented a "pressed" steel fifth wheel in 1942. That product, combined with the No-Slack® lock, became the foundation for Fontaine Fifth Wheel Company.
Today
Fontaine is a global enterprise serving owner operators, large fleets and leading heavy-duty truck OEMs on a global basis. Fontaine is a member of Marmon Holdings, Inc., a Berkshire Hathaway company.
